Key Mindfulness Principles That Keep Me Calm In The Face of Adversity
Some of the wonderful principles and practices I’ve learned / re-learned through Calm
1. ‘What if’ questions can be a source of immense creativity or needless suffering. Bring awareness to your thoughts and feelings and catch yourself before spiralling into a loop of exaggerated fears and unproductive worrying.
2. Effective problem-solving requires a clear understanding of what’s within your sphere of control. There’s no use obsessing over things which are beyond your control e.g. the past, the thoughts and behaviours of others.
3. Deal with bad habits with non-judgment and self-compassion rather than condemnation. Give yourself permission to learn, fail and grow.
4. When faced with adversity or a tough decision, taking a moment to breathe coupled with going for a walk and journaling will give you time and space to reflect and introspect. I used these approaches to great effect during my five law exams.
No matter how bad things may get we must fiercely hold on to the hope of a better future.
